AI Policy

About this Policy
We value your data privacy very highly. Please read this AI Policy carefully, as it contains important information regarding our use of Artificial Intelligence. We wrote this policy with the guidance of My Calm Business. We are not legal or GenAI experts; this policy does not constitute legal advice. Please credit us if you copy this policy and use it on your website. Google frowns on plagiarism, and so do we!
What is GenAI?
“Generative Artificial Intelligence (or GenAI) allows users to input a variety of prompts to generate new content such as text, images, videos, sounds, code, 3D designs and other media. It is trained on documents and artifacts that already exist online.” (Source: Coursera)
Some examples of these programs are (but are not limited to) Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Stitch, DALL-E2, and Hello Scribe. Many companies and software suites (for example, Canva, Squarespace, and Adobe Creative Cloud) are introducing more AI capabilities into their offerings by adding AI assistants and generators.
This policy outlines our position regarding GenAI and how and when we use it.
How does Design Powers use GenAI?
Our Website: The Design Powers team creates most of the long-form content featured on our website. We leverage Claude (formerly used ChatGPT) to draft initial versions of blog posts and newsletters, but all GenAI-generated content is thoroughly edited to ensure it reflects our expertise and point of view. Claude has also been used to help draft website copy. For spelling and grammar corrections, we rely on the Grammarly AI Writing Assistant. To optimize our headlines and taglines for SEO, we occasionally use Ubersuggest and SEMrush, which provide SEO scores and suggest alternative wording. We have used Claude and Gemini to generate code for our website. Additionally, we use Adobe Firefly to retouch headshots featured on our team page.
Social Media Accounts: For our Instagram and Linkedin accounts, we currently utilize the Grammarly AI Writing Assistant (formerly used ChatGPT and Hello Scribe) to generate post captions. While this tool supports our brainstorming process, every caption is carefully reviewed and refined by our team to maintain a natural, authentic voice. We do not use GenAI to create photos, graphics, or videos for our social channels; however, we have featured photos retouched with Adobe Firefly as banner and profile images.
Client Work: Design Powers does not use GenAI to build websites, design logos, or graphics for client projects. However, we have used GenAI tools, such as Claude (formerly ChatGPT), to draft initial versions of website copy. We also use Adobe Firefly to retouch client photos. On only one occasion, with explicit client consent, we used AI-generated images from Adobe Firefly for a client's website photography when suitable stock images or illustrations were unavailable to accurately convey their abstract and complex mission.
GenAI and SEO
Google “rewards high-quality content, however it is produced,” but it is also very clear that “when it comes to automatically generated content, our guidance has been consistent for years. Using automation—including AI—to generate content with the primary purpose of manipulating ranking in search results is a violation of our spam policies.” (Source: Google’s policy written in February 2023)
Our Views
We are dedicated to creating unique, creative human content for our clients and our business.
While we recognize the benefits of GenAI as a valuable tool (and something that we are interested in using and exploring further), we believe there is no substitute for genuine human ideas, creativity, and strategy.
GenAI and its use are controversial at the time of this policy. Many AI generators are plagued with inaccuracies, spread misinformation, and experience problems with plagiarism. We cannot begin to predict GenAI's long-term effects on the world (positive or negative).
We are committed to delivering our clients the best-quality advice and design services and are transparent about our use of GenAI.
